Summary

Air pollution can be caused by many things and can really affect the environment. A common way pollution can be caused is through transportation, like vehicles, trains, boats, and planes. Materials in the products we buy, go through a process and travel through a lot of places. You can find how far your product traveled by checking where it's made. When you have found how many miles the product, you can find the carbon footprint. For each mile the product travel, it emits a number of grams of CO2 per kilogram of raw material. This is the amount of CO2 emitted and released in the air, during the trip of your product. The process of a product, like transporting it, is a common way air pollution is caused.

S&EP: Using Models / Mathematics

This week, my group and I used models when we create our map for our Journey of Fortune Cookies. We created this map to represent the distance that our materials traveled to get to the school. Once we figured out the miles traveled, we used equations to find the number of grams of CO2 per kilogram of raw materials emitted by the transportation of our product. Our product traveled 27,699.955 miles and emitted 16,987.419 g of CO2 per kg. As you can see, my group and I used models this week when we create our map.

XCC: Cause and Effect

I have noticed some cause and effect while doing this project. For example, the more food ingredients we need for our materials, the more it will come from the same country, aka the USA. The more non-food materials, like takeout boxes and tissue paper, the likely it is to come from outside the US, like China. Most of our foods were from the US, and the others came from China. The more miles our product travel, the more grams of CO2 will be emitted per kilograms of raw material. In addition, if we had found manufacturing places closer to the retailer, there would be lower miles needed to travel, which results in lower carbon footprint. As you can see, these are some cause and effects that I noticed.

Multiplier

This week, I was a Wanderer because I was actively contributing to my group and noticed many things.
