Epigenetics - 1/29/2017

Weekly Blog : Victor Nguyen 7A Image image Location Summary This week, we have been doing some similar things like in the past few weeks. We continued to work on our superhero project, and learning our super-baby, seeing what is the possibility of its epigenetics and how our superhero was mutated. Throughout this week, I have learned many things. For th e first two -three class periods, we were seeing what epigenetics our superbaby ha s, and we had to draw it out. My baby was a t risk of being obese, and has b reast cancer . He lives in Do nutopolis , with Jak ob , Sean, and Pierson. On Thu rsday, w e were supposed to have sub, but change of plans. W e learned about GMO and mutations. We wor ked on that during Thu rsday and Fri day. On Friday, we did our mastery quest. As you can see, I have learned many things this week, like learning our super-baby, seeing what is the possibility of its epigenetics and how our superhero was mutated. Punnett Squares - 1/15/2017

Weekly Blog : Victor Nguyen 7A Image Image Location Summary This week, we have been doing some similar things like in the past few weeks. We continued to work on our superhero project, and learning about punnet squares, seeing what is the possibility of a gene. Throughout this week, I have learned many things. For example, there are 2 principles. The first one, the Principle of Segregation. Mendel decided that sex cells - sperm and eggs - contain only half of the genes from each parent. The second one, the Principle of Independent Assortment: genes for different traits distribute independently of one another when garnets  are formed. This is just saying there are different possibilities. Look above in the image, the probability of getting brown eyes is 75%, because 3 of the squares have a dominant genotypes. As you can see, I have learned many things this week, like you can see the different possibilities by looking at the phenotypes and genotypes in a punnett square. ...

Genes - 1/08/2017

Weekly Blog : Victor Nguyen 7A Image Image Location Summary This week, we continued to work on and learn about genes and heredity. We didn't have school on Monday. On Tuesday, we were given a worksheet, to fill about. I t was about genetics. This was to have us understand heredity more. I learned what genes, allele, etc, and what they all do. We had two class periods to work on that. On Wednesday, I think, we learned about our own heredity and what trait we have. I learned which traits were dominant and recessive. On Thursday, after we finished the worksheet. We were given another worksheet, but this one we have to complete a game with. It was about heredity with dogs. We have to match to different dogs to make one specific dog, like  dog with black hair, long coat, etc. On Friday, we got our superhero back, and chose a villain for it, and we wrote the traits out for each.  S&EP7 - Engaging in Argument From Evidence I would say I used argument from evidenc...

Genetics - 12/18/16

Image
Weekly Blog : Victor Nguyen 7A Image Image Locatio n Summary Since this week was the last week, before Holiday Break. I had to answer many questions about genetics. I learned that DNA is a molecule that contains the instructions which helps your cells function. I learned that genes are the instructions manual for the body to make proteins. There's is about 25,000 genes. Chromosome is the units of DNA. A human hold 46 chromosomes. There are thousands or different kinds of proteins. Genes are the blueprint for making proteins. Heredity is the passing of traits from traits from parent to child. There are about 23 chromosomes, that each parent pass to their offspring. Traits are a notable feature of quality. Finally, each parent gives 1 of their allele to the baby, so the baby gets 2 alleles. As you can see, I didn't much this week. S&EP7 - Engaging in Argument From Evidence I used evidence to defend my explanation. The last two periods of this week (and year),...

Charity Fair Project Blog - 12/11/16

Charity Fair Project Blog: Victor Nguyen 7A Image  Our group presenting, the Night of Charity Fair This is our trifold. Summary To start off, my first year here at AdVenture, and first time doing Charity Fair, was a new experience for me. My group, Ian, Pierson, and I chose to help PetSmart charities, by making kale chips. I learned that we should always work as a team, whether we are at school or at home. When we were looking for the charity statistics, we learned that not all charities will post past tax and revenue information. While working on the test product, we learned that he we needed to change our unit of measurements, from ounces to tablespoons. Personally, I have learned so much from doing this project, from choosing a charity, finding different costs and statistics, thinking of an item to make, making a test product, presentations, and to putting all the money into a special cause. I learned one big thing,  Practice Make Perfect. Backward Loo...

The Immune System

Human Body Redesign : The Immune System http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/dr-jennifer-pearlman/boost-immune-system-flu_b_8205274.html Body System Function:  The immune system help you healthy and stay alive. For example, if there's any cells in your body that will hurt you, make you sick, or even perhaps endanger your life, the immune system will attack it.  Organs: Skin: This helps prevent things from entering your body. Mucus from nose:  This helps prevent the things that inhale from entering your body. Stomach Acids: This kills bacteria from the food you eat. White blood cells:  This recognizes all the invades/germs in your body. Thymus:  This is where the  lymphocyte matures .  Bone Marrow:  This is where bone cells are produced. Spleen:  This is the forming part of the immune system. One Organ's Structure and Function: Personally, I think the main function of the immune system is the the bone marrow....

The Respiratory System

Human Body Redesign : The Respiratory System www.livescience.com/22616-respiratory-system.html Body System Function:  The respiratory system is like the circulatory system, a system of transporting. The respiratory system bring oxygen to the body. It also helps get rid of the carbon dioxide.  Organs: Diaphragm : a  muscle that works with your lungs to allow you to inhale Lungs:  It is where all the oxygen is processed to be carbon dioxide.  Trachea:  This allow air to pass  through. One Organ's Structure and Function: Personally, I think the main function of the respiratory system is the lungs. When I hear the word lungs, I think this organ is very important, because in order to breath you need lungs. Lungs can easily be harmed if you use it improperly, like smoking. The lungs is where all the oxygen is processed to be carbon dioxide, so now the respiratory system will release it. As you can see, I think the main functio...
